Since the end of E3, a major gaming industry conference, many have speculated about which titles generated the most hype (and consumer interest) out of the gate. In terms of online buzz volume, several newly announced titles grabbed the lion’s share of attention with New Super Mario Brothers Wii leading the pack with 4.6 percent of E3 buzz. But looking at gamer sentiment in Nielsen’s Video Game Tracking survey shows that Halo ODST and God of War III lead in consumer purchase interest as of last week.
The table below shows total positive purchase interest (definitely or probably interested in buying the title) for games that garnered at least 30 percent on this metric and will be released at least a month from now. For most of these twelve titles, either a trailer was released or gameplay was demoed in some form at E3. But interestingly, there were not massive spikes in consumer interest in purchasing these titles from pre- to post-E3. Most moved up or down 1-2 percent at most, which is well within the margin of error. In other words, games that already tugged at gamers’ hearts held on.

the buzz i heard and felt at the e3 was not so much for halo:odst or gow III, but for activision’s call of duty: modern warfare 2. i have my serious doubts as to why this title is not under the top 10.
this list is very wrong. Uncharted 2? Modern Warfare 2? really?
Thanks for your comments. I wrote this post and yes we looked at all titles we track, including Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2. Modern Warfare 2 was at 27% for last week and Uncharted 2 was at 23% when we last tracked it, the week of June 1st.

It’s hard to believe that Modern Warfare 2 or Uncharted 2 are not up there, but I’m glad to see ODST as number one.

i think there is a difference between modern warfare 2 and call of duty 2, call of duty is a subtitle for modern warfare, and not the main game title per se. Hopefully i got this right to clear it up.

Surprised Splinter Cell: Conviction isn’t on the list to be honest. Pre-E3 I wouldn’t have given it a second thought, but since that trailer it’s definitely number 1 on my purchase list for the coming months.
Either way, I trust your research more than I trust my personal opinion. Keep up the good work guys. =]

I’m curious as to where Forza Motorsport 3 ranks, considering I preordered it after E3 and I probably won’t get NFS:Shift unless it has really good reviews.
