The US Census Bureau says that DC’s population is set to exceed 600,000 residents soon. I think there is a an even greater acceleration of the moves of the young and moneyed into DC than has been estimated over the last 5 years.

I find it excellent that the DC area is attracting so many young professionals because of the jobs and amenities. I look forward to seeing the results from the 2010 US Census next year to get even more specifics on the changing demographics.

What is remarkable about the inclusion in the top ten of Arlington County, VA and Alexandria, VA both in the Washington, DC market, is that both are inner area jurisdictions right in the core of the region. They have used high-density, walkable, transit-oriented development as a way to create vibrant, mixed-use urban communities that are very attractive to the young creative class.

The New York County location must be public sector employees. The only way to make really big money is to work in the public sector and bilk from the private sector.

It would be interesting to also reflect what the unemployment rate is in these counties.
